WHat to expect from us and what we expect from our owners
At Legacy Nicely Trained Dog, our experience nearly 40 years of experience of bringing out the most in dog and handler gives us the ability to know how to motivate and teach you in a way tailored to the way the dog and you learn best. It also gives us a wealth of techniques as all teams are not the same. Our extensive and continuous study of behavioral science allows us to explain to you what is going on with the dog each step of the way and why certain things that may work for one dog don’t work for another. The combination of experience training and the depth of knowledge also allows us to use science to sometimes engineer a technique for you as science is always the same and once you know the goal, we have the practical experience to make it happen.
What we expect from our students. The biggest thing is to trust the process. We build pets the same way we would a police dog meaning a strong foundation with lots of behaviors that need to be mastered that as they are layered on the culmination of those preliminary exercises reveal their purpose. Or as many clients have said there is a “wax on wax off” moment where it all makes sense. We also expect for the homework to be done. Just like working out once a week gets you nowhere, only working with the dog during the sessions get you and the dog not only nowhere but leads to frustration.

LEARNING BOUNDARIES IS VERY IMPORTANT. TEACHING THE OWNER HOW TO PROPERLY IMPLEMENT AND MAINTAIN THOSE BOUNDARIES IS EVEN MORE PARAMOUNT FOR THE FAMILY UNIT. THEY TEACH THE DOG TO PLAY WITH THE FAMILY, AMONG OTHER BEHAVIORS THAT ARE NEEDED FOR SAFETY OF ALL.
“PLACE”
“PLACE” HAS MANY BENEFITS. IT HELPS WHEN YOU HAVE COMPANY OVER AND GIVES THE DOG A PLACE TO RELAX OR SETTLE IF OVERSTIMULATED. SINCE NO ONE IS TO MESS WITH THE WHEN IN “PLACE, ” IT GIVES THEM A PLACE TO GO WHEN THEY WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE WHICH IS GREAT WHEN SMALL CHILDREN ARE INVOLVED.
SOCAIL SKILLS
KNOWING HOW TO ACT IN PUBLIC ALLOWS THE OWNER TO TAKE THE DOG TO PLACES THAT ARE DOG FRIENDLY. KNOWING HOW TO SIT QUIETLY ON A PATIO, NOT JUMP ON STRANGERS AND HOW TO SIT QUIETLY WHEN THE OWNER SPEAKING OT SOMEONE IS A SKILL WE BELIEVE IN.

A RECALL IS A LIFE SAVING SKILL. WE WILL WORK ON THIS UNTIL MASTERED.
INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED OBEDIENCE PROGRAMS
INTERMEDIATE AN ADVANCED OBEDIENCE CAN BE TAUGHT RATHER QUICKLY WHEN SHORTCUTS ARE TAKEN. AS A FORMER K9 TRAINER, JESSICAS’ DOGS HAD ABOVE ADVANCED OBEDEINCE AS THEY WERE ON A LEVEL THAT NO SPORT COULD EVER RIVAL AS SPORT IS REPETATIVE…K9 IS EVER CHANGING SCENARIOS. AT LNTD WE BELIEVE IN A STRONG FOUNDATION SO THAT THE DOG LISTENS TO THE OWNER AND NOT A COLLAR OR LEASH FOR THAT MATTER. TO OBTAIN THIS LEVEL JESSICA DOES IT SO THAT IT WILL LAST AFTER SHE IS LONG FINISHED WITH THE TRAINING OF THE DOG AND OWNER. THESE LEVELS ARE OFFERED BUT REQUIRE THE DOG TO PASS AN INITIAL SKILLS ASSESMENT SHOWING THAT THE DOG HAS THE FOUNDATION PROPERLY LAID SO THAT THE NEWER MORE ADVANCED SKILLS ARE A SIMPLE PROGRESSION. THE SAYING IN THE PICTURE IS TRUE OF ANY SPORT OR PERSON WANTING TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THEIR CHOSEN ACTIVITY. IT IS A SAYING THAT JESSICA HAS LIVED BY HER ENTIRE LIFE.
